Madekwe was born South London, England into a family of mixed blood. She has a father who is Nigerian and Swiss as well as her mom is English. Her family was in the South London Council Estate, and then was a student at The Brit School aged 14. She graduated with a BA in acting from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She appeared on stage in many productions while attending school like the King Henry V, as Princess Katherine and Wuthering Heights, as Catherine Earnshaw.
Madekwe first began her acting career with Storm Damage. In the years since, she's had appearances as a guest in films like Teachers, Doctors Casualty Drop Dead Gorgeous. Madekwe landed her first motion picture role in the Woody Allen movie Cassandra's Dream, opposite Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor. Following this acclaim, she played Elisha in the BBC Three drama pilot West 10 LDN as well as in six episodes Trexx as well as Flipside. She also landed the part of Bambi on The ITV2 Drama series Secret Diary of a Call Girl and was featured in the episodes two and three. Madekwe was also the title character in How to lose friends & make people feel alienated that was aired by Sony Pictures Entertainment back in 2008. Her stage credits includes Little Sweet Thing or Roy Williams as well as Flight Path of David Watson.
Madekwe's US debut came in 2009 when she appeared on the drama The Beautiful Life. The show aired just two episodes prior to being removed from The CW. Ashley Davenport, a character in ABC's Revenge drama series was cast for her as Ashley Davenport. Madekwe had appeared in all episodes of the show's initial two seasons as an regular. In May of 2013, news broke that Madekwe will leave the show after her guest appearance in the first episode of the series' third season. Between 2014 and 2016, Madekwe was a star in the role of Tituba in the TV series Salem. Madekwe got married to her actor boyfriend Iddo goldberg in June of 2012. The two have collaborated on Secret Diary of a Call Girl in the past, and Goldberg is also a part of the cast in the television series Salem.

Ashley Leggat, an actress who was twice nominated for the Gemini Award, hails from an extensive Hamilton family. Four of her older brothers were also present and included twins Todd and Bram, Brett & Rob. Ashley's siblings, who are all athletic, played baseball during the summer and played hockey in winters. Ashley was unable to walk, but was able to dance. In the end, as she grew older, she discovered Baby Ballet. Ashley was hooked on dance immediately. After graduating from the high school she attended, Ashley danced competitively in the top divisions in tap, jazz, ballet and pointe as well as acrobatics, lyrical, musical theatre and hip-hop. She was the top soloist in major competitions such as International Dance Challenge, Showstoppers, 56-7-8 Showtime, Flash Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance, were all awarded to Ashley.
